High-Fiber, Low-Guilt: My Unexpected Love Affair with ROYO Bread

Over the years, I’ve dreamed of being able to eat a sandwich every day for lunch like I used to when I was a kid. Of course, I always had the freedom to do this, I just restricted myself to one—maybe two—a week. I was constantly scared of the carbs and calories from the bread! I longed for the Fresh Horizons bread that was available in the late 1970s that I used to eat; it got canceled at some point, unfortunately. Back then, no one was talking about carbs—and fiber wasn’t even on the radar yet—but each slice had only 40 calories. True, it did taste a little like old paper, but I could have a sandwich! (I talk more about how I eat, in general, in this blog.)
Enter ROYO: The Bread That Changed Everything
After years of wistful wishing and monitoring my sandwich intake, thinking they would be just a weekly splurge, now, I’m eating them as if they were legal—and on a bagel, no less! (I think the bagels are far better than their bread, and for only 10 extra calories why not eat a fluffier, much more substantial sandwich?) Since finding ROYO bread—a complete miracle if I do say so myself—I eat about 4-5 sandwiches a week. And when I eat a salad for lunch (the only other thing I eat besides a sandwich) I have two slices of the plain ROYO bread. Check out these incredible stats! One entire plain bagel contains:
- 70 calories
- 5 grams of net carbs
- 9 grams of protein
- 32 grams of fiber!
The only thing I’m not crazy about is the sodium content; each bagel has 400mg of sodium. Not ideal, but for now, this doesn’t seem to be a problem for me. And the nutrition info for the bread? Each slice contains:
- 30 calories
- 2 grams of net carbs
- 3 grams of protein
- 11 grams of fiber!
The sodium’s a little high—150mg per slice—but the fiber and super low calories have me hooked. Before ROYO, I was taking straight psyllium husk powder (mixed with water) twice a day to help with high cholesterol—something I’ve had for years but don’t medicate for. (That’s a whole other blog!) I’d mix a full tablespoon with water and toss it back like a tequila shot—because it started to congeal really fast. Not fun. . .and only 12g of fiber! So yeah, with ROYO’s sky-high fiber and minimal calories, it feels like a miracle. No more psyllium shots for me!

Low-carb and low-calorie—a dream come-true!
I Asked ROYO If It Was Too Good to Be True
However, before going all in and ordering up a storm, I emailed ROYO, asking them about their amazing stats. They assured me that their products have been tested and verified with an outside food testing company, so I decided to believe my good fortune of finding bread that not only is low-cal but also gives me so much fiber, with zero hassle.
From Freezer to Table in 30 Seconds
I currently have a subscription with them where I get three packages of bagels and one package of bread. It all stays in the freezer where it stays super fresh. Whenever I want a bagel or two bread slices, I just take them out and pop them in the microwave for 30 seconds, and they come out great.
Beyond the Basics: ROYO’s Lineup of Breads
Besides plain bagels and plain bread, ROYO makes a variety of other bread items: cinnamon raisin bagels, everything bagels, challah rolls, super seed bagels, and hamburger buns. Their prices are higher than most bread products that you’ll find in your grocery store, but to me, ROYO is worth it. Just this week (9/28/25), ROYO became available in Whole Foods Markets—look for their everything bagels and cinnamon raisin bagels in the freezer section. However, if you can’t find ROYO in a store near you and you’d like to try it, here’s a link that gives you 20% off your first order: ROYO. I do get $10 off my next order if you place an order using this link, so thank you in advance if you do decide to try some!
